The EAN-8 is used in retail around the world. Mostley on small packages that doesn't have the space for a EAN-13. Please note that the most common barcode in North America is the UPC-A. The EAN-8 has one Checksum (Check Digit), it's the 8th digit and it's added automatically.
The EAN-8 bar code also supports the Light Margin Indicator, it's the < and > at the start and end of the barcode.
GS1 Recommended size
For the EAN-8 you can use one of the pre-defined sizes 80% to 200%.
For the Retail barcodes, you will be able to set the width and height from 80% to 200%, e.g. from X-dim from 0.264 mm (0.0104 In.), and 200% is 0.66 mm (0.0259 In.) and height of the bar, from 14.58 mm (0.574 In) to 36.46mm (1.435 In)
