AI(403) is an attribute to the Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC) and is intended to provide a migration path to the adoption of a yet-to-be-defined international solution. The routing code must not be used to encode information which could be encoded in a separate AI (such as a Ship to Postal Code). The routing code’s contents and structure are at the discretion of the parcel carrier issuing the code. If a parcel carrier wishes to enter co-operative agreements with other parcel carriers, then a mutually agreed indicator is required to indicate the structure of the routing code. AI(403) is an attribute to the SSCC it must be used in conjunction with AI(00) - Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC).
