Barcode Automation in Adobe
InDesign.
I am going to show how to use sequential barcoding and automation in Adobe InDesign:
First we need to make the sequential barcodes in the barcode software Barcode Image Maker Pro. Download the barcode software.
Make sequential barcodes
In the barcode software click on the Sequential Tab, we are only going to use the Sequential [NUM1]. In Start fill in 1 and in Stop fill in 30 and please check the Add leading Zeros to Start, so that the digits will show as 01, 02, 03....09 and end with 30. Please look at the image below.

I have selected the barcode Code 39 and in the [NUM1] [NUM2] Sequence, I have filled in M2515[NUM1]. The M2515 will be used for all barcodes in the sequence and the [NUM1] will be digit 01 to 30. Please check the the Clear Barcode List before adding sequential and then click on the Make Sequential button to add the barcode sequence to the Barcode List. Please look at the image below.

Save the sequenced barcode image in a Comma delimited text file for Adobe InDesign.
Click on the Barcode Tab in the Barcode software and the Barcode List will show. In the Barcode List, right click the right mouse button to have the barcode list menu show. Click on Check all Items to select all the items. Please look at the image below.

Now that all barcodes have been selected in the Barcode List, we need to save them all as a vector barcode in the Encapsulated PostScript (*.eps). Click on the Save as icon
in the Toolbar or click on the File menu and the click on Save as and then select Encapsulated PostScript (*.eps) as the File format.
Now that all the barcodes have been saved, it's time to save the Comma Delimited text file (*.txt) for Adobe InDesign, click on the File menu and the go to Export and then click on Save as. Pleae look at the image below.

The Browser windows will show, if you have saved the barcode images to the folder shown in the browser, then just click on the OK button, if the barcode images have been saved to another folder then select the folder you have saved to barcode images to and click on OK button and then the Save as window shows, save the Comma Delimited text file (*.txt) for Adobe InDesign, fill in the File Name ( I filled in Code 39 for InDesign), you will be able to save the Comma Delimited text file (*.txt) for Adobe InDesign in any folder you would like to, I would recommend the same folder as the barcode images have been saved to.
Automation and Data Merge in Adobe InDesign.
Start / Run Adobe InDesign.
Click on the Create New Document or just open a document you would like to add the sequential barcodes too. I have opened a document that I will use.

In the Tool box in Adobe InDesign click on the Regtangle Frame Tool (F), please look at the image below.

Add the Regtangle Frame in the document, please look at the image below.

To be able to see the linked image in the Rectangle Frame you must click on the Preview so the it's checked, please look at the image below.

Add the sequential barcodes using Create Merged Document in Adobe InDesign.
In the Data Merge Palette menu, click on Create Merged Document... Please look at the image below.

In the Create Merged Document you have many options, I will be using the default settings. When you have made your settings, click on the OK button, please look at the image below.

All images/pages have been made by Create Merged Document. Please look at the image below.

In the File menu in Adobe InDesign, click on Print to print all the merged documents. Please look at the image below.
